Industrial LA

Went on a very exciting field trip to the industrial section of downtown LA, and we saw so many cool things I had a hard time deciding which pictures to post. We took a trip down a really creepy tunnel to visit the LA river. Although the LA river is pretty crappy, this is the site where many movie scenes are filmed. And we actually got kicked out of the site because they needed us to move to shoot some film.

We went to so many cute little stores restaurants and coffee shops, but I included a picture of this one because the old Nabisco factory building was turned into a really nice sidewalk restaurant with a great outdoor patio.

We ended the tour looking at the American Apparel factory. We were supposed to get a tour of the entire place, but of course it was cancelled. Because everything that we actually really want to see on these fieldtrips, we never do. But the way that American Apparel manufactures their clothing is quite unique because they have to keep up with production from China. So they use newer technologies like CNC mills and laser cutters in their factory.
