Schindler House

Went on our first tour of a famous architectural landmark today! We went to the Schindler house, built by Rudolph Schindler and his architectural partner in the 1920's. It was built for him and his partners families so it is essentially two houses built into one and it incorporates open courtyards as the main living space.

He also wanted the house to interact with the outdoors as much as possible and he created the bedrooms to be open on top so he could sleep with a view of the stars. LA must have been a lot different in the 1920's because I haven't been able to see a single star through the smog since I moved here.

Here is a view through the office window looking out onto the courtyard.

Here is the very narrow staircase going up to the bedroom.

View over the open courtyard from the bedroom window.
