Well, its official: Borders has been replaced. There is not even a hint of evidence left that a Borders ever existed in Davis, all I have left are the fading memories. The replacement, Whole Foods Market officially opened its doors Wednesday morning.
I meant to post this picture 25 days ago to inform you it was coming, but I forgot so here it is now. I did not actually go visit the store on opening day. I figured it would be crazy crowded, and its just a grocery store. Not that exciting. But I did go last night to check it out and look at all the nice food I couldn't afford.
Mmmm... fancy expensive cheeses right where the children's book section used to be.
Oh, and over-priced wine where I used to read the kama sutra books.
Ok, maybe I sound a little bit bitter, but I'm actually happy that the Whole Foods opened. This is a place where I might actually buy something someday, unlike the Borders. Whole Foods does have a lot of unique things like a full salad bar, a pizza oven and a wide variety of hot and cold drinks. Also the biggest selection of olives and cheeses that I have ever seen. The prices aren't actually too bad, just depends on what you get. Since I haven't tasted anything I can't say if the stuff is actually worth the money, but I would definitely recommend it as a place to check out. They still have the outdoor seating area as well as a small cafe towards the back of the store. Staff are also very friendly and helpful unlike the Borders, and I didn't even get yelled at for taking pictures inside the store. Score.
