University of Beer

Well all the students are back in town as classes started up at UC Davis again this week. With classes starting that means one thing in Davis: people want to party. So good thing a new bar opened up in downtown this past month. The newest addition to the Davis bar scene is called the "University of Beer."

It has a nice outdoor patio with plenty of seating, but unfortunately I took this picture in the morning before they opened and set up all the chairs. Note to all: this bar does not open before 10am. Shame.

The inside of the bar is a little bit small. It seems like they lost the battle against Panera for the open blockbuster lot. In my opinion Panera should have been cut back on space to allow the University of Beer to be bigger, because I will be frequenting this area a lot more often than Panera. But in any case they have a nice bar area where, well they serve beer. Duh. I believe they have about 100 different varieties on tap and the menus are displayed on giant TV screens and iPads. They will also let you taste some of the beers before you buy. Staff is very friendly and maybe even a bit OCD. But you can rest assured that the place is VERY clean. I really recommend this place if you enjoy beer, but avoid going over holiday breaks if you do not want to encounter all the weird people you went to high school with.
