Day 3: Ando, Ando Some More

Spent another day looking at Ando! But first we had to navigate the Japan train system another time. I can't remember how many bus/train combinations we had to take today. I think at least 5 and then we had to take one ferry to make it to Naoshima Island. It was a fun experience of 4 hours of travel and we got to take one bullet train!

These were crazy weird looking but they did go super fast! Once we finally made it to the island we set out on a bicycle adventure to see three of Ando's museums. These were all absolutely incredible so of course they didn't allow any photographs inside, but I did take several shots of the exteriors.

The first stop was the Benesse house and museum with gorgeous views of the water.

The house is now a hotel, but unfortunately it was already booked so we couldn't stay there and maybe a little bit out of our price range.

Next we continued on our bicycles around the tiny island, up and down all of the hills and made a quick stop at the Lee Ufan Musuem also by Ando. This was a lot more just beautiful concrete and we didn't go inside because we were getting short on time.

The last stop at the Chichu Art Museum was above and beyond my favorite, but there were no photos allowed! I hope I can remember in my head what it looks like for a very long time. Besides the incredible architecture there was an exhibit of Monet's work and also an exhibit by James Turrell who has become one of my favorite artists. I saw his exhibit in LA at LACMA and now I got to see it in Japan. Unfortunately it was the exact same stuff that they had in LA.

At the end of the day we bicycled back to our home stay in Naoshima, and I have to include a picture of the bicycle because everything they do in Japan is just so smart. The bicycles here have built in locks which are so easy and simple and you don't have to carry around an extra lock and run the risk of it being cut off like you do in America.

After then when we made it back I became 100% definitely sick and I am absolutely miserable right now. I didn't even feel like getting dinner so I am updating the blog, doing my homework and going to sleep as early as possible so I can get better quick. Tomorrow, more Ando. I'm about to be all Ando'd out.
