Windsor Castle

Today we took another day trip out of London, this time to the city of Windsor. I woke up and ate more toast at the hostel, but this time I only ate four pieces. Tomorrow I am going to try and beat my record.

So we hopped on the train once we got to the station and this time the ride was very short. Our Australian friends really didn't want to let us go apparently, because they met us for another day of fun in Windsor. We all started walking up to Windsor castle and realized we were just in time to see the changing of the guard parade. This one had way less people than Buckingham palace so we were able to get a lot closer.

Once the parade was over we stood in a giant line to get tickets into the castle. As soon as we got tickets we then stood in a giant line to go through security. I felt like I was at the airport. Once we finally made it in we roamed around and took a lot of pictures in the nice sunny weather. I have included one picture I took inside of the castle and it also has my finger in it.

I want to say that all the photos on here are really bad because I have to take them with my phone in order to upload them. I also can't put them in any sort of order. Once I get home to a real computer I am going to fix up the blog and actually spell check, and put some much better pictures in.

But back to the point. We took tours of the exterior of the castle, St George's chapel, the state apartments and queen Mary's dolls' house. The decorations at each were very spectacular and unique. I couldn't take pictures at any interior tours, so you will never know what they look like until you go. The British are such giant hoarders.

Once we all had our fill of the castle we were so hungry so we went to have some tea and scones for breakfast. We went to a cute little place called the Crooked tea room. I included a picture. It is supposed to be the best tea room in Windsor according to the Internet, and yes the entire house was crooked.

When we finished our dainty breakfast we were all still so hungry. We walked a little ways until we found some pizza. Yumm. After our real lunch we wandered the town and checked out some candy shops and souvenir stores. The town of Windsor was really adorable, just a little small so we ran out of things to do. Plus it started raining and none of us were in the mood to deal with that. We had our fill of the royal city of Windsor so we headed back to London.

The weather didn't get much better once we got there. But we still walked around along the Thames river and we saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the parliament building. At some point during this the sun came out and there was a rainbow arching over the buildings. Still raining though. We walked on past Trafalgar square to visit the Hamleys toy store. It is an entire five levels of fun! It actually was fun except for all of the toys for little kids but I found some cool souvenirs.

Once we walked through the entire toy store we were all exhausted. My legs were barely still working. We didn't want to leave because this mean't saying goodbye to the Australians we had become very close with. It had to be done though, so we parted ways and said goodbye. There will be a reunion sometime in the future!

We returned to the tube station which took us back to the hostel. I am now so tired and my feet are killing me. Time to get some rest so I can enjoy my final day of vacation.
