Lately I have been discussing my blog with some readers and the suggestions I have been getting are to not only make this an actual blog and update, but also include some things that are a lot more Davis-y. And it's true that Davis has a very unique culture that sets us apart from other towns and I am not just talking about the millions of bicycles. But I suppose that after living here for so long I have begun to forget and miss the things that really make Davis special. So I am going to try and enlighten you with some of these really Davis things with the help of some of my readers.
So the first thing I am going to start with is how most Davis children between the age of about 5 and up spend a lot of their time on the weekends and after school. You probably think its something bad, but almost all children who grow up in Davis will spend part of their lives on one of the many Davis fields playing soccer. I did it as a young child and actually have grown up playing soccer and even played in college. I still totally suck at it despite starting at a young age, but at least I try.
I went to watch a soccer game tonight because I discovered that people my age still actually do play and some of them are even good at it. The particular game I watched was at Play Fields park on the south side of town, which is not your typical soccer field because it is all fancy turf. When I was a kid I remember running in real grass. Most of the fields though are still actual grass. We need something to feed all the goats.
But anyhow, If you are ever driving around the city on weekends especially during the summer it would be very hard to miss some serious soccer action.
