Tree Davis

For those of you that think I provide nothing of benefit to the city of Davis other than this amazing blog, think again! I have spent precious hours of my time for the past two weekends planting trees around the city. Here are some of the trees I have planted downtown, and I have planted another two in random people's yards.

Aren't they beautiful? In just 20 years from now I can bring my children to Davis and say "hey, I planted that." Hopefully the trees will actually be a little bit bigger and that cone won't still be there.

But I didn't just do this randomly on my own, I now volunteer with a non-profit called Tree Davis which is run through the city. Arborists and trained professionals, like the ones in the creepy photo below tell volunteers where to plant the trees and teach proper procedures for tree planting. And they also monitor volunteers to make sure they don't destroy the Davis lawns or break pipes or anything like that.

Here is a group of volunteers during a recent trip out watching a demonstration on how to properly plant a tree. I'm guessing the girl on her phone the whole time probably didn't do so well. And her trees are going to die. If you have any interest volunteering or in trees at all I highly recommend helping out with Tree Davis. They have a lot of planting weekends during the months of November and December because it is the perfect time to plant! And it is also really cool to watch the tree demonstrations and get practice planting trees because it is a very valuable skill to know.
