After completing the fall semester I was ready for a nice long break. Although I had to spend a week of it completing our object making pavilion, I had another three weeks to enjoy myself. This winter break was probably my last for one thing, but it was also one of the best I've ever had. I made no travel plans and really no plans whatsoever and I had time to really do the things that I've missed. Since starting grad school there are a lot of hobbies that I haven't seen in awhile.
I spent quite a lot of time catching up on sleep first off, I got to read a lot, I cooked, baked, cleaned, went hiking, went to the gym, watched movies, went to art museums and saw a lot of architecture. It was nice to just spend some time in LA with a lot of time on my hands because there are so many things to do here.
I discovered a new favorite spot over the break as well, the Brand Library in Glendale. Although I've been before I fully got to appreciate it and spend time in the park. I spent a few days at the historic library reading for my thesis and spent another few days going through the hiking trails. There was a great little hike that I didn't expect to find behind the library.
I took another small hike during the break to see my first ever Frank Lloyd wright buildings in person. I saw his Ennis House and Hollyhock House which were both beautiful. It wasn't much of a hike but the views were very worth it. It was kind of sad to see how much the houses were decaying and just literally falling apart. I took a lot of pictures just in case they aren't around much longer but they are both under restoration.
I saw a lot of art and spent time preparing for my thesis over break and I'm ready to have a great final semester!
