Coastal Cleanup

I volunteered my Saturday morning to picking up trash in the coastal cleanup. I know what you are thinking: #1 yes I am crazy enough to wake up early on a Saturday to pick up trash off of the side of the road, and #2: no, Davis doesn't actually have any coasts. But we do have about 2 bodies of water in the city, one of which is the north Davis pond. Since this body of water flows into Putah creek this was our clean up spot for the day.

I thought this was going to be a rather tame morning just going around and collecting trash, but what I didn't realize was that I was going to have to trek through giant weeds, encounter many very large spiders and spider webs in the eyes, walk into a wasp nest, and actually get lost at the bottom of the pond. All of which made my morning very exciting even before I ate breakfast. But despite all of this I did collect two bags of trash and I actually had a pretty enjoyable time because I met some nice people and had fun exploring the bottom of the pond.

I also met a really adorable cat who entertained me while picking up plastic bags.
