Not a super Davis post, but I tried the latest and greatest place to eat in the city and wanted to share my opinions. Since blockbuster video went out of business a few years ago a huge block of downtown Davis has been left sitting vacant. Construction started a while back to turn a majority of the old store into a new Panera Bread restaurant.
It opened about a week ago (I think) and I got stood up for lunch at work so I decided to go check this place out by myself. The restaurant is very nice and spacious with plenty of seating both inside and out. The menu is fairly diverse and my sandwich was good, although a bit pricey. They sell a lot of baked goods here as well so it might be a good option for breakfast, but I can't say since I didn't actually eat any of it.
So the place seems pretty nice, but workers are still new and in that taking forever and still getting your order wrong phase so I would suggest waiting until they get more comfortable and for the crowds to die down before going. But I still really enjoyed it and I got to sit outside and people watch while I ate my food.
